SLATE BY NIK FIELDS
There’s Always Something New to Try
Located at 8801 N Central Ave, Slate by Nik Fields is Arizona’s first Black owned wine tasting room and the natural next chapter of Chef Nik Fields acclaimed Chic Chef 77. Built on the same foundation of culture, community, and elevated hospitality, Slate expands that vision into a wine-forward lounge where art, cuisine, and conversation take center stage.
Created by celebrity chef, Food Network personality, and sommelier Nik Fields, Slate feels less like a departure and more like a deepening. Where Chic Chef 77 introduced Phoenix to her culinary voice, Slate invites guests further into her world , one rooted in wine, storytelling, and atmosphere. The result is a space designed for lingering, connecting, and returning.
At the heart of the lounge is an open-concept kitchen anchored by a wood-fire oven, offering guests a front-row seat to the warmth and rhythm of live-fire cooking, by Chef Nik The menu centers on elevated small plates meant for sharing, alongside a rotating seasonal entrée that changes monthly, ensuring the experience evolves with the seasons.
Slate features a 100-pour rotating wine list, curated to complement the wood-fire menu and shift throughout the year. Anchoring the list is The 7 Wine Collection by Nik Fields, an exclusive lineup that reflects her personal approach to wine as both craft and story.
Just as important is what the list represents. Slate was intentionally designed to create visibility for Black-owned and women-owned wine brands, offering representation in an industry where it remains rare. Fewer than 1% of U.S. wineries are Black-owned, and women account for only an estimated 10–15% of lead winemakers and wine executives nationwide. By placing these producers alongside globally respected labels, Slate invites guests to explore wine through both excellence and equity.
More than a tasting room, Slate is an art driven cultural space, featuring live music, poetry, and rotating local artists. With a private parking lot and an outdoor patio, the venue balances neighborhood accessibility with a refined, intimate ambiance. Positioned between North Central Phoenix and the historic Sunnyslope community, it was designed to feel like a shared living room elevated, welcoming, and deeply rooted in its surroundings.
“Slate by Nik Fields, was never about starting over,” says Fields. “It’s about evolution. Chic Chef 77 laid the foundation. Slate is the continuation. A place where wine, culture, and community can live together.”
Through signature programming such as Private events, First Fridays , curated tastings, and intimate cultural gatherings, Slate is quickly establishing itself as a neighborhood anchor and a meaningful addition to Arizona’s cultural and wine landscape.
